Taylor Bythewood-Porter

Taylor Bythewood-Porter was the Assistant Curator at the CAAM (California African American Museum) and for years has worked tirelessly to support artists and their visions. Through her curated exhibitions she incisively dissects the power of signs, symbols and language. Her investigation of the news reflected her profound curiosity about not just current events but also how they are told and received, and the media as a medium in itself. ⁠

Since 2017, Taylor Bythewood-Porter has served as assistant curator at
 the California African American Museum (CAAM). She is the curator of Rights and Rituals: The Making of African American Debutante Culture (2021). During her tenure she has contributed to several exhibitions including California Bound: Slavery on the New Frontier, 1848–1865 (2018), Making Mammy: A Caricature of Black Womanhood, 1840–1940 (2019), and Cross Colours: Black Fashion in the 20th Century (2019). ⁠

She holds a Master of Arts in art business with a concentration in contemporary art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art at Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a focus on public relations and journalism and a minor in art history from Monmouth University. ⁠
