The Artist News Network was launched in January 2021 as a platform for conversation between artists and other creative minds around contentious, confusing, or curious topics in the news. The result is a uniquely curated archive of these stories shared by a selected group of artists and others from around the globe. Readers are offered the chance to learn the news reading practices, hear commentary, and view the particular stories as told by inspirational makers and critical thinkers. Each Guest Selectors is invited for one week to take over the @artistnewsnetwork Instagram page and share their daily stories and thoughts on the media. The final archive lives here and contains snapshots of time, events, and conversations, and lives as a collective record of artists in dialogue reflecting on our current and constantly evolving global situation.
Current stories are posted regularly on the Everyday page as well as on the Artist News Network Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky.
The project was founded by Max Rippon, an artist and curator based in Los Angeles. His practice examines the narratives, distortions, and psychological impact of contemporary news media through dialogue and memory built through labor. Archive is the art. Art is the archive.
