Brandi Sjostrom
Brandi Sjostrom is an independent curator who has brought together numerous exhibitions in Chicago and California, and currently works at Night Gallery, Los Angeles. Her research has focused on the construction of virtual identities, the exploration and manipulation of our technological realities, and the building of the contemporary performance we call life.
Brandi Sjostrom is an independent curator and art historian working and living in Los Angeles. She currently works as the Sales Assistant at Night Gallery. In 2018 She received her Master’s Degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History, Theory and Criticism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Focusing on Post-Media Theory and Contemporary Art History, Sjostrom’s thesis dove into the performative series, ‘Excellences and Perfections’ by the Argentinian-born artist Amalia Ulman, and examined how identity was constructed on social media platforms. In 2012, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from UCLA with a focus on Dada and Surrealist art.
Her curatorial interests lie with artist run projects, emerging artists, virtual realms, and engaging curatorial methodologies. Partnering with emerging artists, she has curated multiple exhibitions across Chicago, including her work with Young Chicago Authors (YCA). Sjostrom’s curatorial endeavours included a solo show by Chicago-based artist David Heo, a two-person show with Anneli Goeller and Yao-Yi Wang, and a group show titled ‘My Feelings,’ that explored the cross sections of empathy and technology.

Liz Cheney: Trump arch-enemy ousted in Wyoming election
I thought it was interesting to highlight the same story from different publications. Pulled from the BBC article, “And those candidates – who have repeated his false claims about the 2020 election and defended him amid mounting legal troubles – have largely performed well.”

What to See in N.Y.C. Galleries Right Now
For this article, I would specifically like to highlight Jeane Cohen at Slag Gallery. “Cohen’s paintings, remind me of Jennifer Packer’s and teach me about seeing, as a necessary act of carefully parsing out her visual abundance.”
“In the larger adjacent gallery, your looking is even more rewarded by the work of the New York-based artist Jeane Cohen. Her show, “Waxing Glimmer, Shedding Beams,” deserves the time you should want to take with this show. Horses, flowers, trees and the moon overlap in “Ludic Midnight” (2021) forming a crowded, chromatic symbiosis. It may take you a while to see the owl in “Acclimating to a Hostile Environment (Owl Hunts Sunflower),” but it’s there, eyes gleaming like an alien sun. It’s almost enveloped by a diluvial wash of white as if Cohen glimpsed between the trees the forest’s ancient glacial past. Cohen’s paintings, remind me of Jennifer Packer’s and teach me about seeing, as a necessary act of carefully parsing out her visual abundance.
