About

because we read better together

The Artist News Network is a collectively curated archive of media and current events.
We are not an algorithmic news aggregator. We share stories discovered at a human pace through conversation, careful looking, and critical thinking.
Read the stories that artists read.

The Artist News Network launched in January 2021 as a platform to showcase artists’ and creatives’ perspectives on current events. We want to hear directly from our peers about what grabs their attention, what inspires them, worries them, entertains them, or shifts their view of the world. Most of us read or receive the news in one way or another but how, what, why, and which version we read is something usually kept private. These factors, and others, drastically change how information affects us. We ask participants to put their private practice on public display.

Artists are invited as Guest Selectors to take over the @artistnewsnetwork Instagram page for one week, and share stories they find and their thoughts on the media. As they participate, many offer insight into what sources they read, where they search, what they look out for, what infuriates them or inspires them, and other personal musings as they take in the daily deluge of information. We are offered a glimpse into their minds as they reflect on the ubiquitous and often personal task of keeping up with world events. Rather than an algorithm scraping every story on Earth, here you can digest information at a human pace. The result is a uniquely curated archive of news and views from around the globe. Each contributor is allowed and encouraged to express their personal views, expertise, biases, and opinions, and you may not agree with them, and they may not agree with each other. This site lives as a collective record of artists in dialogue reflecting on our current and constantly evolving global situation.

Daily stories are posted regularly on the Everyday page as well as on the Artist News Network Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky.

The project was founded by Max Rippon, an artist and curator based in Los Angeles. His practice examines the narratives, distortions, and psychological impact of contemporary news media through dialogue and memory built through labor. Archive is the art. Art is the archive.
