Talia Shipman
Talia Shipman’s work bridges art, food, social gathering, and social justice. While her photography and installations raise questions about our place in the world and our fabricated and natural environments, her recent transition to a community and culinary-based practice was born out of an urge to connect with others and support social causes. She has done this through the creation and sales of monthly artist-chef hummus collaborations, Social Hummus.
Talia Shipman is an L.A.-based artist & entrepreneur, creating beautiful and meaningful experiences at the intersection of food, art, philanthropy & design. In 2019, Shipman conceived HAFO SAFO, a curated dining experience in her Silverlake backyard, pairing artists & chefs. The 2020 civil rights uprise and pandemic spawned her current venture: SOCIAL HUMMUS. Monthly featured chefs create unique flavors and choose a social justice charity to donate the profits to. “We are all about pushing artistic and culinary limits while expanding community and raising money for charity. I believe being an artist can manifest in infinite forms…right now food is where my creativity and passion is outpouring…it’s so tactile and fun.”
Shipman has always been interested in exploring humans’ interaction with the environment and community, as well as the ongoing quest for finding balance between extremes. Shipman’s work has been exhibited in galleries internationally, is part of global collections, and her public art installations live permanently in both Canada and USA.

I consume news predominantly via audio (podcasts, radio), and Instagram. I listen to NPR ‘Up First’ every day, while I cook breakfast or lunch. I often think about the contrast of standing safely in my kitchen in LA, with access to an abundance of beautiful and healthy food, while listening to (often) horrific, tragic, stories from around the world. Cooking has become such a therapy and art form for me, so in a way, I think it comforts me when I feel helpless with the information I’m receiving.
