GUEST CURATOR - Julie Baumgardner

Julie Baumgardner

May 3 – 7, 2021

Julie Baumgardner lives for, through, and by her words. She is a globally traveled journalist and New York-based art and cultural critic whose writing springs from a well of knowledge, an explorer’s wisdom, and a love and admiration for art, history, and culture. She does this with an often-raised eyebrow, an infectious sense of humour, and an incisive wit. Julie was the first professional journalist on the Artist New Network.

“Hey it’s julie b! You may know me from my bylines or your neighborhood bar stool or far-flung art show because that’s generally where you can find me IRL. Besides being an art/design/travel writer, you can see me side-eye Nancy Pelosi, share the location of the latest protest, and scope my mood boards (and many moods) at @juliewithab. I like to think my work and life meet at the intersections of honesty, absurdity, beauty and exploration... or at least those are the paths I like to pursue. Meaning is in the messes, and I like to sort it all out.

Here are a few great things I’ve had the fortune of bearing witness to: Sputnik Satelitte inside the United Nations;  Phelim McDermott’s production of  Philip Glass’s Akhenaten at the Metropolitan Opera; Paa Joe’s Fish palanquin (and me!) in Accra, Ghana.”
